Stanford beats USC

Lane Kiffen’s whining face at the end of regulation was priceless, a warm cackle simmering in my heart.  Robert Woods didn’t get out of bounds, overtime was inevitable and Andrew Luck wasn’t to be denied. Kiffen’s cries for help toward the referees were a plea for mercy, he knew Luck would be nearly impossible to stop if given the ball at the 25 yard line, as Luck has been nearly perfect in the red-zone all year.

Is it not a pleasure to see a good NFL QB in college…and this isn’t a Todd McShay “Jamarcus Russell is the best college prospect ever” type player, this is a legitimate Pac 12 QB who is tearing through the league.  Not an SEC garbage QB who throws it in the air and prays his talented WRs come down with the ball.  No, this is an accurate, smart and athletic QB who has been a joy to watch this season.

USC is a good team this year, a team filled with talent on both sides of the ball.  But Stanford’s offensive line is the best in the country and obviously Luck is the best QB in college since Aaron Rodgers.

I was thinking to myself if I’ve ever seen a 4th overtime when Curtis McNeal fumbled away any chance of that happening.  The smugness of Lane Kiffen’s face disappeared into the lost little boy look that accompanies him after his losses.

It’s nice to see Stanford, who is the best team in the country in my opinion, get that difficult signature win.  Every national champion has a signature win, a game that could have gone either way.  I for one don’t believe Oregon will pose as much of a challenge as the game will be at Stanford and Oregon just got done struggling at home against the mighty Wazzu.  Hopefully we’ll get to see the best team in the country play a southern team (LSU or Alabama), and hopefully this time we won’t have to hear about SEC dominance that just isn’t true (2008 anyone)…
