As the season has churned along Cal has done what they’ve been doing for the last few years. Start off looking great, blowing out teams only to get into a midseason funk that involves fans pointing the finger at the QB and the coaches and players “having” his back. There is an obvious issue in Cal, the disconnect between the fans and the team. Perhaps that is a good thing however, the team cannot, if they want to perform their best, listen to the average fan whom at this point is beyond frustrated. Watching Cal’s offense, I get the sinking feeling every time they throw an incomplete pass on first down or the run gets stuff, that they have no chance of actually getting a first down on that drive. In fact I can’t remember when I had much confidence after a bad first down that the Bears would be able to advance…well, if I think back far enough, yep, when Aaron Rodgers played…which is beginning to fell like a decade ago. Crap, it is almost a decade ago.
Yet, in my opinion, between Kyle Boehm and Zack Kline I have to imagine one of those guys will become a good Pac 12 QB. I’ve seen both of them, at least on tape, and both possess good arm strength and mobility. It’s been a while since both of those attributes have been encompassed by a Cal QB. Again I must harking back to the days of Aaron Rodgers to remember a QB who had both of those qualities to a great extent. From what I’ve seen of Kline and Boehm, both of them have those qualities in abundance.
Ah, but that is years from now and in the mean time I must be content watching the Bears build upon their strong defense, which seemingly produces first rounders every year. This year is no exceptions as in my opinion, if you see my mock draft, I have Mycal Kendricks going in the first round. He may not go there, but I’m confident he will be a productive NFL LB.
I’ll leave with this, the Bear doesn’t die…but perhaps the Bear is in hibernation for a while. I think we’ll see the Bear wake up today, as the Cal defense should be strong enough and angry enough to subdue the team of Wazzu.
